01 · OPERATING CONDITIONS
Specialty chemical sites operate batch and continuous processes on control systems layered across long service lives. Steam, cooling, nitrogen, and power are shared between units that were engineered, documented, and modified at different times and often by different contractors.
Turnarounds are scheduled years apart, which concentrates change into narrow windows. Work that is deferred to the next turnaround is deferred a long way, so the accuracy of what is known before that window opens carries unusual weight.
